No matter your skill level\, join SWMTU for a laid-back day on the water followed by a social outing at a local restaurant. \n\n\n\nWe will have mentors available to help beginner anglers with the basics\, including casting techniques\, fly selection\, knot tying\, reading the water\, and wading safety. Please let us know if you need to borrow a fly rod\, as we will have some available. SUMMARY:Women on the Water: 2026 PM Steelhead Version
DESCRIPTION:Hey ladies\, looking for more fishy friends? Join us for our annual Women on the Water weekend getaway! Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited proudly presents this women’s only fishing weekend at Barothy Lodge in Walhalla. \n\n\n\nBarothy Lodge is a beautiful 300-acre property along the banks of one of Michigan’s most prized blue-ribbon trout streams – the Pere Marquette River. Our retreat will be based in Elkhorn Lodge\, but we will have access to the entire property\, which includes seven miles of river access and hiking trails. \n\n\n\nThe focus of this weekend is on steelhead and camaraderie! All experience levels are welcome. We will have a conservation presentation\, fly tying\, snacks\, and an open bar during the day on Saturday at Ludington Bay Brewing Co with an opportunity for rest and relaxation in the evening. Did we mention the lodge has a hot tub? \n\n\n\nOur full-day guided float trips will start early Sunday morning with our targets being steelhead — large\, lake-run rainbow trout that are headed upstream\, often eating eggs from salmon that have recently spawned. Steelhead will also be eating nymphs and streamers this time of year. You will get the opportunity to fly fish using floating lines and indicators\, centerpin fishing\, or two-handed spey fishing! \n\n\n\nTake it slow the next morning – check out is Monday by 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nDate: Saturday\, November 7\, 2026 – Monday\, November 9\, 2026Location: Barothy Lodge\, Walhalla\, Mich.Cost: $575 per person for a double room\, $625 per person for a single room\, includes two nights’ lodging\, one guided float trip\, and mealsGroup size is limited to the first 11 registrants. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Our featured speakers are Kimberly Balke\, Program Director at CRA\, and Gavin MacDonald\, Communications Manager for CRA. \n\n\n\nWe will gather at Gravel Bottom Craft Brewery starting at 6 p.m. on Monday\, November 16\, 2026.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKimberly Balke is the Program Director at Conservation Resource Alliance\, leading a team of six project managers and biologists working to protect and restore streams across Northwest Michigan. With a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from MSU and Wayne State\, she has lived and worked in northern Michigan for over 30 years with family roots running back several generations. When she’s not at work\, Kimberly can often be found kayaking or hiking the very rivers she helps care for. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGavin MacDonald is a nonprofit communications professional serving as Communications Manager for Conservation Resource Alliance (CRA)\, where he leads storytelling\, marketing\, and outreach efforts that support hands-on river and habitat restoration across Northern Michigan. His work focuses on translating complex conservation projects—such as dam removals\, stream crossing replacements\, and habitat restoration—into compelling narratives that engage communities\, partners\, and funders. He holds a Master of Science in Administration\, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology\, a minor in Professional Sales\, and a certificate in Corporate Video Creation from Central Michigan University. \n\n\n\nDetails \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonday\, November 16\, 2026\, starting at 6 p.m.\n\n\n\nBuffet service starts at 6:30 p.m.\, program begins at 7 p.m.\n\n\n\n$20 per person includes buffet dinner\n\n\n\nCash bar available\n\n\n\n\nOpen to the general public\, attendance capped at 60.
