DESCRIPTION:Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited is excited to announce that registration for our Annual Fundraising Banquet is open! This is our biggest event of the year and our primary fundraiser which helps us pursue our mission to conserve\, protect\, and restore our local coldwater watersheds.  \n\n\n\nOur banquet takes place on the evening of Tuesday\, April 22\, 2025 at Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. Help Trout Unlimited collect important data to monitor the health of Mena Creek\, a coldwater tributary to the White River. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers will assist with the collection and identification of stream insects to better understand the quality of Mena Creek. \n\n\n\nIn addition to the stream insect study\, volunteers can also assist with a trash cleanup of the stream. \n\n\n\nNo experience is needed and all ages are welcome. DESCRIPTION:We are now taking reservations for our annual membership outing at the Wa Wa Sum Lodge. The lodge is located on the banks of the Main Stream of the AuSable River’s fabled “holy waters\,” five miles east of Grayling\, Michigan. The historic main lodge was built in 1921/22\, while other buildings on the property date as far back as 1880. The property consists of 251 acres along the AuSable River. \n\n\n\nArrival is anytime after noon on Thursday\, June 19 with departure NO LATER than 9:00 am on Monday\, June 23. The NIGHTLY RATE IS $65.00\, whether your stay is one\, two\, three\, or all four nights. Be prepared to settle up at the lodge with host Larry Risbridger either via CASH or CHECK (no debit or credit cards) before you leave. You may stay for all four nights or as few as one. \n\n\n\nPLEASE RSVP WITH LARRY RISBRIDGER BY JUNE 16\, 2025. Larry can be reached at elrisbridger@charter.net or by phone at 616.690.0692. Overlooking the river is a large screened-in porch that runs the entire length of the lodge. There is a separate building that houses a large dining room (seating for 16) and complete kitchen facilities for preparing meals. There is also a gas grill for grilling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMEALSAlthough there are no organized meals\, we will be providing cold breakfast items\, such as muffins and cereal. Coffee and juice will be available along with bottled water. Sandwich fixings\, such as cold meats\, cheese and condiments will be provided so that you may take a sandwich with you to fish. This will be the 14th year for this annual event which is not only a “blast” but a fundraiser to support both organizations’ youth educational programs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis fun-filled\, no-pressure event includes a 50-shot round of sporting clays and a fun but challenging fly-casting course. A prime rib dinner will follow a social/happy hour\, which includes complimentary craft beer provided by a local brewery. A raffle including many cool items follows dinner. \n\n\n\nNovice shooters and casters are welcome! We will have expert instruction of the fundamentals of each sport. Everyone is welcome and you do not need to be a current member of either organization to attend. \n\n\n\nFly rods will be available for the casting competition but each shooter will be responsible for their own shotgun. DESCRIPTION:Hey ladies\, looking for more fishy friends? Join us for our annual Women on the Water weekend getaway! Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited proudly presents this women’s only weekend at the Pere Marquette River Lodge. \n\n\n\nThe PM Lodge is an Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter with a fully stocked fly shop located along the banks of one of Michigan’s most prized blue-ribbon trout streams – the Pere Marquette River in Baldwin. Check out this article on the Pere Marquette River from Trout Magazine and learn more about TU’s Priority Waters work on the Pere Marquette. \n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\nThe focus of this weekend is on camaraderie and fly fishing at dark! All experience levels are welcome. There will be opportunities to learn and fine-tune fly fishing skills ahead of our full-day guided float trip on Saturday night. Guide trips are scheduled in the evening in hopes of dodging the heat of summer as this is better for fishing and trout handling. DESCRIPTION:Join us for food\, a cash bar\, updates on local projects\, how to become involved\, and a talk from Aaron Snell of StreamsideEco on Monday\, September 15\, starting at 6 p.m. at Gravel Bottom Craft Brewery.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAaron has long been a leader in SWMTU’s stream restoration work across West Michigan. He’ll share information on those local projects and how StreamsideEco works with organizations like SWMTU. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAaron is actively involved in all aspects of biological and morphological stream and river assessments throughout the state. He has completed stream assessment and restoration training courses through Ohio State University\, North Carolina State University\, Dr. Robert Newbury\, and Water Survey of Canada (Regina)\, and was one of the first people in Michigan to complete the four-part series offered by Dr. Dave Rosgen\, Wildland Hydrology. He has applied knowledge of stream restoration and habitat connectivity\, having worked on scores of projects from southeast Michigan to the Upper Peninsula’s Keweenaw Peninsula—focusing on aspects of stream ecology including streambank stabilization\, natural channel design\, habitat improvement\, and barrier removal/modification. \n\n\n\nDetails \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonday\, September 15\, 2025\, starting at 6 p.m.\n\n\n\nBuffet service starts at 6:30 p.m.\, program begins at 7 p.m.\n\n\n\n$20 per person includes buffet dinner\n\n\n\nCash bar available\n\n\n\n\nOpen to the general public\, attendance capped at 60. \n\n\n\nPlease contact Nick Garlock at president@swmtu.org or 616-540-5406 for questions.

DESCRIPTION:Here is the presentation schedule for the 2025 Muskegon River Spey Fest.Saturday\, 27th September.At Henning Park\, Newaygo\, Michigan. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit SWMTU at the Muskegon River Speyfest! \n\n\n\nSpeyfest is an educational event for anyone interested in all things spey – all experience levels are welcome. SWMTU will be on-site for the main events on Saturday\, but the learning and camaraderie goes all weekend! The event itself is free but there is an $8 daily fee to enter the park. No registration required. \n\n\n\nFriday: One-on-one casting instruction from noon onwards followed by a potluck cook out in the evening. \n\n\n\nSaturday: Several shops and booths\, including SWMTU\, will be set up at the park to visit between presentations.9:30am – Capt.
