DESCRIPTION:Hey ladies\, looking for more fishy friends? Join us for our annual Women on the Water weekend getaway! Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited proudly presents this women’s only weekend at the Pere Marquette River Lodge. \n\n\n\nThe PM Lodge is an Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter with a fully stocked fly shop located along the banks of one of Michigan’s most prized blue-ribbon trout streams – the Pere Marquette River in Baldwin. Check out this article on the Pere Marquette River from Trout Magazine and learn more about TU’s Priority Waters work on the Pere Marquette. \n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\nThe focus of this weekend is on camaraderie and fly fishing at dark! All experience levels are welcome. There will be opportunities to learn and fine-tune fly fishing skills ahead of our full-day guided float trip on Saturday night. Guide trips are scheduled in the evening in hopes of dodging the heat of summer as this is better for fishing and trout handling. We will likely start by casting big\, buoyant dry flies and hopper patterns\, and as dusk turns to night\, switch over to mousing in the dark for bigger brown trout (the plan is subject to change based on conditions). \n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\nDate: July 25-27\, 2025Location: Pere Marquette River Lodge in Baldwin\, Mich.Cost: $550-$650 per person\, includes two nights’ lodging\, one guided float trip\, and meals. We are hoping for mayfly hatches so we can cast dry flies but may also use streamers or nymphs for trout based on conditions. Check-out is late morning on Sunday. We will gather in the main room around 6 pm for introductions and snacks. Social hour will continue with the opportunity for fly tying. Feel free to bring your own equipment and materials if you have them but we will also have plenty available for use.\n\nSaturday\, July 9\n\nStart your day of fishing off with breakfast and coffee. Typically\, this time of year offers easy wading in the Pere Marquette. You will have the opportunity to fish independently in the morning if desired; those who are interested can go out as group with a facilitator to hone their skills.\n\nWe will head back to the lodge for lunch\, some rest\, and to get geared up for this evening’s fishing. Our Orvis endorsed fly fishing guides will pick us up at 5 pm to catch trout with hoppers and mouse patterns until 1 am! Dinner will be served during the float.\n\nSunday\, July 10\n\nOur final day together will start off easy with sharing fish stories over breakfast and coffee. DESCRIPTION:(May 15\, 2020) Sorry all\, due to issues surrounding COVID-19 this year’s Women on the Water event is canceled. She will share her experiences with predatory and competitive interactions between young Grayling and resident Brook and Brown trout which may be one of the greatest hurdles to overcome for a successful reintroduction. Nicole’s research examines predation by young Brook and Brown trout on newly hatched Grayling fry and competition between age-0 Grayling and Brook and Brown trout of the same year class. She also investigates early-life imprinting to home-waters of Arctic Grayling. The information learned through this research will provide guidance to the reintroduction program and aid in the selection of suitable streams based on fish community structure.
