SWMTU is hosting a class for macro invertebrate identification in the Rogue River on May 14, 2011.
Dick Pobst, nationally renowned for his work on aquatic insects, and local elder statesman of Michigan fly fishing, is going to deliver a presentation on the importance of Rogue River insects to anglers. The focus will be mainly on Mayflies, as they are more prevalent in the spring. Mr. Pobst is also going to cover seining, and imitations to match the hatch.
After the talk we will fan out and collect samples in the river. There will be a post-collection gathering where Mr. Pobst will be available for questions and we will identify our insects. Weather permitting we will be grilling burgers and dogs to wind up the event. So bring your waders and an appetite.
Kevin from the Hex Shop will be there to lend a hand with seining nets, and examples of imitations for the insects we collect. Glen from Great Lakes will be at the event to offer his expertise as well.
