SWMTU announces capital campaign to fund Schrems Scholarship forever
First published April 16, 2004
At the annual spring banquet, SWMTU announced a new Capital Campaign to support the Schrems Scholarship fund forever.
Named after Cornelius Schrems, one of the founding members of Trout Unlimited, the $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a Michigan State University graduate student who works toward the mission of our chapter.
After the passing of Cornelius in 1982, his wife, Sis, founded the Schrems Scholarship Fund. Since that time, Sis funded the scholarships for these students involved in research projects with wild trout populations.
In 2000, the chapter officially changed it’s name to recognize the contributions of these two fine people. Sadly, Sis Schrems left us in September 2003.
To keep this valuable scholarship going, the SWMTU Board, with guidance from advisors of the Schrems family, decided to begin an effort to raise $100,000. The interest on this account will then fund the scholarship forever.
If you would like to donate to this fund, you can call the Voice Creel and leave a message (616-752-8596) or you can send a check to Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited and indicate that it is for the Schrems Scholarship Fund.
