Summary of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 2, 2024

Announcement

Beginning with the new Trout Unlimited fiscal year on April 1, 2024, Nick Garlock will move from his position as vice president to begin his tenure as president of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited. Filling the office of vice president will be Paige Werner. Larry Risbridger will continue as secretary of the chapter, as well as Tom Mundt as treasurer. Outgoing president Steve Frendt has made the decision to step down as a board member of the chapter. We thank Steve for his years of service to Schrems TU.

The Schrems board passed a proposal to present $1,500.00 to StreamsideEco to survey baseline elevations needed for design and permitting for the Tyler Creek project.

You are welcome to join an evening with Schrems Trout Unlimited and Orvis at the Rockford Brewing Company in Rockford on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. This is a FREE EVENT of fly tying, coldwater conversation and good will. Please register online.

Rogue River cleanup

On Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 7:45 am – 10:00 am there will be a river cleanup in downtown Rockford at Richardson Sowerby Park, sponsored by Schrems Trout Unlimited and Orvis Grand Rapids. Volunteers are welcome.

Salmon in the Classroom

Kentwood’s Explorer Elementary School will be releasing their Salmon in Buck Creek between 9:30 and 11:30 am on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Lemery Park in Grandville. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Mena Creek macroinvertebrate monitoring

Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 9:30 am there will be a macroinvertebrate assessment made on Mena Creek in the White River Watershed. Volunteers are welcome to aid in this event.

Women on the Water

The Women on the Water weekend at the Pere Marquette River Lodge in Baldwin on June 7-9, 2024 is a sellout.

Wa Wa Sum

The chapter’s weekend, June 20-24, 2024, at the historic lodge in Grayling is a sellout.

Annual fundraising banquet 2025

The chapter’s annual fundraising banquet will be held at the Watermark County Club on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
