Here’s a summary of the Schrems West Michigan Chapter Trout Unlimited Board meeting for August 3, 2021.
Rogue River Home River Initiative:
Tree plantings along the Rogue River are scheduled for September 16, October 28 and November 4, 2021. In addition, there will be trees planted on Flower Creek on November 13, 2021.
Conservation
MUSKEGON RIVER– 15 temperature loggers have been placed in the river. They will be removed in the fall and the data will be studied.
WHITE RIVER – work is underway, with a tentative date of Saturday, October 2, 2021, for the first of what hopes to be an annual event, a White River clean-up day. Details to follow.
BUCK CREEK – the annual river clean-up day will be Saturday, August 14, 2021 under the leadership of the Friends of Buck Creek.
PRAIRIE CREEK – on Saturday, August 7, 2021 there will be a workday to stage where permanent log structures will be placed.
COLDWATER RIVER – the Coldwater River Action Group (CRAG) has plans for an upcoming project to remove log jams at Tyler Creek and the Coldwater as well as new work to be done on Tyler Creek on the Tyler Creek Golf Course property.
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021 Schrem’s volunteers will help with a fish shocking study on the Coldwater River beginning at the bridge on Baker Road.
BARKLEY CREEK – several Schrems members recently walked the stream to look and see if work might be done to improve the waters.
Cast n’ Blast event:
The recent annual fundraising event at the Kent County Conservation League, in partnership with the Ruffed Grouse Society was our most successful gathering to date. The fundraising event raised $6,358.00 with these funds being split between Schrems and RGS. The event has already been scheduled to take place in July 2022. The event benefits our Salmon in the Classroom program.
Annual fundraising banquet:
Please make note that our annual fundraising banquet will take place, in person, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids. We look forward to seeing everyone.
