Summary of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited Board Meeting on Tuesday, February 7, 2023

Annual Banquet, Tuesday, February 7, 2023

Schrems fundraising banquet held in January was our best ever, besting our record 2022 net profits by nearly $10,000, with a net profit of right at $50,000. We want to thank all of our sponsors and members for making this our best ever. Just a note: the 2024 Banquet will again be held at the Watermark Country Club on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

Conservation

MUSKEGON RIVER – Data has been collected and compiled from the temperature loggers. This information will be presented shortly to Dr. Mark Luttenton of GVSU.

ROGUE RIVER – A motion was made and passed that will provide funds to Algoma Township and Courtland Township. These funds ($2,000 for each property) will be used to plant trees and other plantings at each of these sites: Courtland 10 Mile Hatchery Park, Gougeburg Landing, and River’s Edge Wynalda Dog Park.

White River cleanup: We are looking to have a river cleanup this fall, details to follow.

Salmon in the Classroom: Applications for new schools wishing to participate in this great program, must be submitted to the Michigan DNR by April 15, 2023 for the 2023/24 school year. Applications are available from the Michigan DNR.

Upcoming Events

Fly Fishing Film Tour: The tour will be making a stop at the Wealthy Theatre for one show at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Women on the Water: This event for women will be held at the Pere Marquette River Lodge in Baldwin May 12-14, 2023. Any women interested, please check the Schrems website.

Wa Wa Sum weekend – this year’s dates are Thursday, June 22 -Monday, June 26, 2023. We have added a fourth night, Sunday night, for those interested in an extended stay.

Cast n Blast – our annual event, partnered with the Ruffed Grouse Society, will be Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Kent County Conservation League. Details should be available on our website shortly.
