Summary of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited Board Meeting on Tuesday, October 4, 2022

New board members

Taylor Ling and Jake Grinwis have been appointed new Schrems board members, to fill the remaining terms of two recent board resignations. Their terms will end on March 31, 2024. A full term is 3 years.

Conservation

ROUGE RIVER – Recently chapter members cleared debris on Barkley Creek, a tributary of the Rogue River, allowing for better water passage. The chapter will be looking at seeking a quote for the removal of a small dam on Barkley Creek about a quarter of a mile upstream of the Rogue River.

COLDWATER RIVER – several landowners have said they would welcome cleanups and work on their properties.

White River cleanup: Over 30 volunteers helped remove trash and debris during the fall river cleanup on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

Salmon in the Classroom: We are pleased to announce the addition of three new schools that the chapter will be sponsoring this school year. They are Reeth Puffer Elementary School, Hesperia Middle School and the East Kentwood Freshman Campus. This brings a total of 20 schools the chapter sponsors with support and equipment.

Membership

Schrems Christmas get-together: After a three-year absence Schrems invites everyone to gather with us for a holiday get-together at the Creston Brewery on Monday, December 5, 2022. Further information along with pricing will be coming soon.

Annual Fundraising Banquet: The Schrems fundraising banquet will be held at the Watermark Country Club on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Further information will be available soon on our website. Please mark your calendars.

State of the Trout: We are looking at having our annual State of the Trout seminar and get together early in the new year. Further details coming soon.
