SWMTU board member Dave Helder has long been the chapter’s primary contact for area schools in the Salmon in the Classroom program. From getting the eggs in the fall, to keeping the tanks cool during the winter, and finally releasing the fry into area streams, Dave has been an incredible volunteer.

Recent salmon releases included:

• West Michigan Academy of Environmental Sciences released salmon fry at Richardson-Sowerby Park in Rockford
• Explorer Elementary School released salmon fry at Lemery Park in Wyoming
• East Kentwood High School, Freshman Campus released salmon fry at Lemery Park in Wyoming

Board members Ron Barch and Dave Helder helped out at some of these releases with fly-casting lessons, stream ecology, and fly-tying demonstrations.
