SWMTU Board Meeting

Here’s a summary of the July 13, 2021 board meeting of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited.

Rogue River Home Rivers Initiative

Work is ongoing on the green infrastructure installation at Cannonsburg Elementary School.

Working with the Plaster Creek Stewards Green Team on rain gardens on the Rogue River.

Work has begun with the Kent Conservation District to host a Farmer Field Day for agricultural producers in Kent City.

Recently completed two fly fishing days at the Camp Newaygo Girls Summer Camp.

Conservation

Muskegon River – Removal of a dam on Kinney Creek, a tributary of the Muskegon River, will begin soon, with SWMTU contributing toward removal expenses.

Coldwater River – An EAS grant proposal is being submitted this week.

Through a joint venture with Schrems TU, Oakbrook (Illinois) TU, and the Coldwater River Watershed Council, Xavier Austin will soon start his work on making a full assessment of the current state of the river’s entire length.

Buck Creek – Phase one of the Rain Garden installation at the Grandville Middle School has been completed.

Prairie Creeek – A recent fish stocking revealed a very low trout count.

Education

Salmon in the Classroom – Schrems will be sponsoring the Field School at West Oakview Elementary, part of Northview Public Schools, as they have recently been approved by the DNR for the program.

Upcoming events

There will be a Clean-Up Day on Buck Creek on Saturday, August 14, 2021, directed by the Friends of Buck Creek.

The annual Schrems TU fundraising banquet will be held at the Watermark Country Club on TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2022.
