Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited contributed $4,500 to the Kinney Creek dam removal project. The Muskegon River Watershed Assembly (MRWA) was able to use that money to find matching funds to raise the $12,000 needed to remove the dam.
Kinney Creek is a tributary of the Muskegon river. Historic fish surveys show that the stream supports a healthy brook and brown trout population. The dam that was removed created a one-acre pond. The resulting solar absorption adversely affected fish habitat quality downstream. With the dam removed the stream has been properly restored.

Here are a few photos of the site showing the dam prior to board removal, and once the boards were removed which began to restore the creek.
