We welcome two schools offering Salmon in the Classroom (SIC) during the 2010-11 school-year: Belding High School and Lamont Christian School. Schrems is pleased to fund the start-up cost ($1000) for necessary equipment for SIC. Thanks to funds raised at our annual banquets, we’re able to add two schools per year. Six schools are now offering SIC thanks to Schrems support. Note: Remember to check-in perodiacly to the web-cam documenting the growth of the salmon in Alex Perry’s Hopkins Middle School class.

Home Rivers Project Presented at Annual Meeting of Rogue River Watershed Council
I have been asked by the Rogue River Watershed Council to present information about the Rogue River Home Rivers Initiative project at their Annual Meeting. The meeting is open to the public and will be held on December 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the Rockford Community Cabin.

Rogue River TU project set to kick off
SWMTU raised $315,000 from major local donors that include the Wege Foundation, Frey Foundation, Wolverine Worldwide Foundation, along with individual and chapter donations. The money will pay for staff and to set up the local Home River office for the Rogue River.
Schrems West Michigan Chapter Receives Trout Unlimited’s Highest Award
Trout Unlimited has awarded its top national chapter honor for 2010 to the Schrems West Michigan Chapter. The Gold Trout chapter award is granted annually to the chapter that has made the most noteworthy contribution to the cause of coldwater conservation during the previous year.

More habitat structure installed in Pigeon River
Lead by Don Messinger, several volunteers met at Hemlock Crossings Park on Saturday to work on the Pigeon River with Josh Zuiderveen of Streamworks LLC. The group installed some habitat and cleaned a stretch of the river of debris. (see more pictures) Fortunately the garbage picked up was significantly lower than two years ago when we first worked on this stretch. If you remember the photo from that day showed a couple of tires and mounds of bottles and cans including a couple of rusted drums were removed from the river that day. Logs are going into place on the Coldwater
Chain saws running, the backhoe at work; the Dolan habitat project is moving forward! Aaron Snell and Jackson Dirt Works are hard at it, installing log barbs in the Coldwater River.
