Recap of 2013 Holiday Party

In mid-December nearly 100 people came out for a wonderful evening of family fun to our annual holiday party. In the photo gallery you can seen the fun on the kids faces as they drew pictures of fish and enjoyed their gifts from Santa. We want to give a special shout-out to Ron Barch for supplying the kid-friendly fly tying kits that were given out. This was a very generous and meaningful gift to our future anglers.

What are your thoughts on the Grand River Whitewater project?

The SWMTU board of directors would like your input on the newly released schematic design of the rapids restoration project in the Grand River.  The Grand River does not classify as a cold water watershed, however many cold water streams feed the Grand River, and SWMTU plays an important role in restoring, protecting, conserving and connecting our valuable resources in West Michigan.  We value our member’s feedback, so please drop us a note with your thoughts about the plans by 12/1 for review at our December board meeting.

Fly Tying Expo coming to Holt

Rogue River clean up

Date: 9/7/13 Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm Please join us in cleaning up the Rogue River! Volunteers will canoe, kayak, or walk along riverbanks above and below the dam cleaning up the river. A free lunch will be provided for all volunteers. The Kent Conservation District will screen drinking water well samples during lunch for nitrates. Rogue River clean up day

Join Wolverine and Rockford Footwear Depot for a day of cleaning up the Rogue River on Saturday, June 8 at 9:00am! Following the clean up all volunteers are welcome to come for lunch, live music, and fishing/conservation demos. The day of the cleanup, volunteers will be assigned to a team with a project leader and be provided supplies for the day’s river clean up. Volunteers should bring comfortable shoes (that can get wet/dirty), layered clothing, bug spray, refillable water bottles. New fishing license required April 1

The Department of Natural Resources today reminded anglers that a new fishing license season begins Monday, April 1. All 2012 fishing licenses expire on March 31, 2013. Anglers have a choice of a variety of licenses and prices are unchanged from 2012.
